Oat Malt from Thomas Fawcett is floor-malted oats, which are given a longer germination and then kiln-dried. The result is a mildly malted raw material that gives the beer softness, body and a more rounded mouthfeel.<\/p>\n
Oat malt has a high husk-to-starchy-kernel ratio. The husks can therefore contribute to a more porous filter bed in the mash tun, especially in brews with a large proportion of other grain adjuncts. The malt is fully modified and can be added directly to the mash tun without separate boiling. The enzymes are preserved and can contribute to the conversion of starch into sugar.<\/p>\n
Oat Malt is particularly well suited to hazy beer styles, stouts and recipes with a high proportion of other cereal ingredients. Thomas Fawcett\u2019s standard specification typically specifies 5\u201310 % of the malt blend, but the malt can also be used in higher proportions depending on the recipe.<\/p>\n
