It gives the beer a distinct, spicy and slightly grainy rye character as well as a fuller mouthfeel. It is suitable for rye beers and as a character malt in, amongst others, saison, ale, porter and other speciality beers.<\/p>\n<h3>Application and mashing<\/h3>\n<p>A smaller proportion gives a discreet spicy touch, while a larger proportion makes the rye character more pronounced. Rye has no husks and can make the mash more compact and viscous.
