They create small channels through the grain bed so the wort can run off more easily, and the risk of a stuck mash is reduced.<\/p>\n<p>They are particularly useful in recipes with a high proportion of wheat, rye, oats or other huskless ingredients. Rice hulls do not contribute significant sugar, colour or flavour to the beer.<\/p>\n<h2>How to use<\/h2>\n<p>Mix the rice hulls evenly into the crushed malt before mashing. They can optionally be rinsed with warm water first to remove loose dust.<\/p>\n<p>Use typically <strong>3\u20135 grams per litre of planned wort<\/strong>, or the amount necessary to make the mash more permeable.
